In creating this video project, I was inspired by existential literature, film noir, and alternative music videos, and drew visual inspiration particularly from the music video directed by Jonathan Glazer for the song "Street Spirit/Fade Out" by Radiohead. This piece is meant to be open to interpretation and can symbolize a range of topics related to gender, identity, primal or wild aspects of humanity, addiction, and party culture. However, my intentions were to represent the pressure women often feel to be pretty and presentable at all times, even if they are in a home environment or by themselves. This is sometimes known as the "male gaze", and I explored this concept in a sketch of a male and female wearing cat and bird masks respectively, with the woman then turning into a bird and flying into the cat's mouth despite his efforts to stop her.

In this video, the woman wears the cat mask to show that she may also be perpetuating this pressure by examining her appearance at all times and desiring to be beautiful at any cost; in a sense, beauty is equivalated to survival.
